Launching Ceremony
The Meenachil Aqua Club has officially launched a new initiative that brings together water sports, environmental conservation, and sustainable tourism along the historic Meenachil River, a river that has played a vital role in the social, cultural, and economic development of Kottayam District, widely known as the Land of Letters.
The club aims to provide safe and professional water sports training for youth while actively promoting the conservation and restoration of the Meenachil River.
As part of the inaugural celebrations:The Meenachil Aqua Club logo was unveiled by renowned climate scientist Dr. Roxy Mathew Koll, Scientist at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM).
The official registration launch of the club's water sports training programme, featuring kayaking and traditional rowboats (Kottavanchi), was inaugurated by Shri Jose K. Mani, Member of Parliament.
Shri Mani C. Kappan, MLA, ceremonially flagged off the water sports training programme in Pala.
At the historic Thottathil Kadavu on the banks of the Meenachil River, former Municipal Commissioner Shri Ravi Pala inaugurated the kayaking training programme by lighting the traditional ceremonial lamp.
Prof. S. Ramachandran, President of the Meenachil River Protection Committee, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of river conservation alongside recreational water activities. The club's official jersey was launched by Ms. Diya Binu Pulickakandam, Chairperson of Pala Municipality.Mrs. C. C. Leelamma Teacher, former Youth Welfare Officer, presented the training completion certificate to Ms. Maria Alpha Jomy, who successfully completed the kayaking programme.
The inauguration was graced by the presence of Vice Chairperson Maya Rahul, Municipal Councillors Biju Palupadavan, Tony Thaiparambil, and Siji Tony, former Councillors Jojo Kudakkachira and Tony Thottathil, environmental activist Shri Eby Immanuel Poondikkulam, retired Air Force officer Shri Aby Vaniyidath, and several other distinguished guests.
The event was coordinated with the participation of Water Sports Operator Binu Perumana and Meenachil Aqua Club office bearers and volunteers, including Manoj Mannoor, Rahim Thalanad, Sherin Maria, Jomy, Alan, Thomas Geo, Benny, Daisy, Shawn Bijoy, Krishnapriya, Alby, and others.
With the support of the Tenzing Adventure & Nature Club, the Meenachil Aqua Club announced plans to organize a wide range of water sports and nature-based adventure programmes in the Meenachil River and nearby locations, subject to favourable weather conditions. The initiative is committed to promoting adventure tourism, environmental awareness, and safe recreational experiences for people of all ages.
